Scenes from the Extraterrestrial Highway (Nevada State Route 375)

While working on submissions for the 2015 Nevada Guide book, I decided to include some images from a trip last spring across the Extraterrestrial Highway.

Nevada's Extraterrestrial Highway stretches 98 miles through a remote stretch of South-Central Nevada. There are no gas stations and essentially no towns or services, except for the tiny town of Rachel, which has one bar that is worth visiting. There once was a gas station in Rachel but it hasn't been open for a few years now.

This highway has been the site of numerous UFO sightings and comes as close as one can get to the infamous Area 51. The dirt roads that connect the ET highway to Area 51 eventually end with warning signs and gates that prevent the public from continuing further. They are also known to be patrolled by unmarked government vehicles. We travelled this route during the day and didn't witness anything unusual in the sky, but it was an interesting drive nonetheless.

West Shore Pier Time Lapse (5D Mark II, Tokina 11 - 16)

Short time lapse filmed last week ...

This time lapse was shot from a little known public pier on the west shore of Lake Tahoe during a warm summer day.  Cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds began to form and expand over the mountains while I stood there collecting footage.  Hours later, a major thunderstorm hit and wiped out power to much of the basin for a number of hours.
